87 Pages of Goals?! My Case for Tracking Sheets

If you know Craig and me personally, you’re probably laughing at this post. I love setting goals, tracking, and data. I’m meticulous by nature. Craig? He’s on another level. I mean, 87 pages of 11×17 typed goals? Who does that?! 🙂

Why Track Things?

  • All change starts by telling yourself the truth. Data tells you the truth.
  • Clarity drives focus, focus drives commitment, commitment drives time spent, time spent drives wins.

How Can You Start Tracking?

  • Start Small. Pick 1-3 areas in your life you want to change or improve. Don’t overcomplicate it.

  • Write It Down. Whether it’s on paper or digital, putting your goals in writing makes them real.

  • Track daily, weekly, or monthly. Consistency is your best friend.

  • Your first tracking sheet isn’t set in stone. You can always Kaizen it.

How I Started:

The first time I took initiative to track anything in my life was my junior year in college. I set a goal to get >3.5 GPA in a semester. The semester ended up being the first time in college I got straight A’s, and a 4.0 GPA. I thought to myself: “hmm, maybe this works. Maybe I should keep at this.” I’ve iterated my tracking ever since.

Tracking isn’t about being obsessive, it’s about clarity and truth. It forces you to confront reality so you can adjust, improve, and ultimately win and making lasting change in your life.
